# Introduction

## The Beginning

After collectively studying and working with various aspects of blockchain technology for decades, Polywhale officially launched on the 24th of April 2021. Our vision was and is to create one single application that can serve all your DEFI needs - and we started with farming.\
\
As a project, our primary focus is to provide safe and sustainable solutions that solve the hardest problems in the space. To affirm this, we got all our smart contract **audited by Hacken** on the 29th of April and were deemed **Well Secured** - the highest score possible on Hacken. As we release new smarts contracts, we will have the contracts audited as soon as possible.\
\
This confirmation of the safety and security of our farms is part of why so many people stake on Polywhale. We don't commit code unless we know it's safe, and we don't commit code unless we believe it somehow creates utility for **KRILL** - the fuel that runs the Polywhale machine.\
\
Utility, incentives and decentralization is at the very core the Polywhale framework. \
One ecosystem that unleashes the potential of crypto and **one token** to empower the ecosystem.\
\
What started as a team of two developers, has now grown to become a team of over 13 members contributing to development, growth hacking, marketing, operations, design, project reviews and community management in the Polywhale ecosystem. As we continue to release new features, we will hire new talent to accommodate for the scaling and growth of Polywhale.

## Why Polygon?

We chose to build on Polygon because it has the fastest and cheapest decentralized transactions in the space. It is not by chance, but rather by careful consideration.\
\
We believe **the future lies in layer 2**, both in terms of fees and scaling, and that layer 2 will be the catalyst for mass adoption of cryptocurrencies. We are already displaying the benefits of building on Polygon through our yield aggregation features Ocean, Tanks and Reef.
